Physician Associate

Works under the supervision of a physician to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with minor illnesses or injuries, including those with undiagnosed conditions or long-term chronic diseases. Provides health promotion, disease prevention, and management advice. This role involves conducting physical exams, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting results, and formulating treatment plans for patients across the age spectrum

Nursing Team

The practice nurses provide a wide range of services including dressings, ear syringing, travel advice, cervical smears, contraception advice, disease management clinics etc. They will be happy to advise on minor illness and injury.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner

As an experienced and highly trained healthcare professional, the ANP works as part of the team, delivering expert clinical care. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with both acute and chronic conditions.

Emergency Care Practitioners

They are experienced paramedics who have undergone additional training to independently assess, treat, and manage patients presenting with minor injuries and illnesses. Working under the supervision of a physician, the practitioner is responsible for performing physical assessments, formulating treatment plans, and determining the need for further intervention.

An experienced nurse with advanced training, the Nurse Practitioner performs physical exams, diagnoses and treats conditions like COPD and diabetes, and prescribes medications.

Provides routine care, health assessments, and patient education in a primary care setting. Manages chronic conditions, assists in disease prevention, and supports patients with treatment plans.

Mental Health Nurse

Provides mental health assessments, support, and care for patients with a range of mental health conditions in a primary care setting. Develops care plans, offers counselling, and delivers therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Collaborates with GPs and other healthcare professionals to manage mental health crises, promote mental well-being, and guide patients in managing their conditions.

Clinical Pharmacist

Manages and optimises medication therapy for patients, performs medication reviews, and provides drug information to healthcare teams. Assesses patient needs, educates on proper medication use, and ensures safe and effective medication practices.

First contact physios (FCPs)

FCPs are qualified, autonomous clinical practitioners who can assess, diagnose, treat and discharge a person with a musculoskeletal problem without needing to see a GP first. They can liaise with refer to orthopaedics when needed.

Community Midwives

A midwife is attached to the practice. She offers advice on all aspects of pregnancy, including pre-conception, runs antenatal clinics in conjunction with the doctor and provides post-natal care at home.

Community Nurses

Community nurses are attached to the practice from the Primary Healthcare Trust. They provide nursing care and support to patients whom because of the severity of their illness, are housebound.

Health Visitors

The Health Visitor’s work involves advising expectant mothers, visiting mothers and babied from the 10th day after delivery and providing support and assessment into the pre-school years. She works closely with the doctors, midwives and other professional and voluntary agencies, providing support for families with special medical and social needs.

Attached Staff

Psychiatric counselling is available at the practice and provide counselling/psychotherapy on a doctor or nurse’s recommendation. A Stop Smoking Advisor works from the surgery and runs individual or group sessions. A doctor or nurse will refer you if you wish, but patients can refer themselves.
